A single synth melody keeps appearing throughout SEASONS. It dominates the opening track. It clings to the echoes on “SEASONS Dos”, appearing in gaseous inferences. It emerges during the fadeout of “SEASONS PARLAY”, revealed only once the jet of static ceases to smother it. The effect is that it feels continually present even when unheard. The terrain of the record drastically shifts – rising into the solar radiance of centrepiece “SEASONS NEEDLE”, plunging into aquatic arpeggiating duets on “SEASONS EENT” – yet an elemental coherence remains through this melody, embedding the essence of supposed opposites inside one another. In turn, this triggers an awareness of the record’s countless other interconnections, revealing a network of subterranean shortcuts and loops that defy our supposedly linear movement through the seasons: atmospheres are later revisited through a reprisal of textures and FX, while palindromic structures are implied in the deployment of motifs at the opening and the close. There isn’t a single moment here that stands alone. All is emanation and consequence.
