Artist statement:

‘Laapiu’ came about very naturally, with a pitch-shifted bass flute acting as the pulsating drone around which everything else hovers. Bass flute harmonics and fluttering electronics were added to create some background movement over which the abstracted flute melody sits. As the intention was to only have one melodic line running throughout the whole piece, I wanted it to be fairly disjointed so that it wasn’t overly predictable. Not tied to any time signature, the melodic line is further abstracted by changes to EQ and interruptions, the background pulses and static interjections continuing throughout.

There is no specific concept behind the piece, other than to lull the listener into a slightly hypnotic state, albeit with occasional glitches to wake them up!
