pnl(a) - a project that started in 1995, whose recent series focuses on the collection and archiving of communication via radio transmissions, guard band interference, audio surveillance and stationary static from various sources such as half-duplex devices, analogue radio, cell tower disturbance and citizen / marine traffic bands.

Stored as information packets titled "HSn" on both digital hard-drives and 1/4" tape, the sounds were then aligned and manipulated by use of two VCR tracking systems and formulized EQ patterns. The procedure resulted in audio laced with phase-cancellation, frequency dropouts, flanging, spectrum overloads, hisses and pops.

"slight curvatures" is the third publication of the above process.

Brandon Auger (b.1978) - artist and structural builder based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Working with sound as a medium, his minimalistic work promotes the amplification of electronic idiosyncrasies and vibrational nuances in both acoustic and synthetic environments.

Auger’s main project pnl(a), has be a 20+ year study of tape/electronic music based on radio waves, audio interference and field recordings. His publications, installations, live performances and collaborative projects have spanned across Canada, the U.S and Europe.

Along with being an active member of suddenlyLISTEN and the improvising community in Canada, Brandon is also one half of the microsound group Strata with cellist Norm Adams. He has also worked greatly with members of Mocean Dance and Kinetic Studios, fusing his approach to sound with movement in both compositional and improvised constructs.
